The full form of NEET is NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY ENTRANCE TEST. The Government of India has enacted a law for admission in educational institutions, based on their earned marks, to students who have passed a qualifying entrance examination to get admission in MBBS, BDS courses of medical undergraduate. It has now been made mandatory to take admission in the medical field.

Before the year 2016, medical students had to give AIPMT (ALL INDIA PRE MEDICAL TEST) to get admission in courses like MBBS, BDS, MS, through which they got admission in medical field. The AIPMT was first replaced by NEET in 2012, after which again in 2013 NEET was replaced by AIPMT due to several reasons. After that, in May 2016, it was decided to make NEET the only medical entrance examination for admission to medical colleges. Now only one national level NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Test) entrance examination is being conducted, which has more transparency as well as many other facilities.


NEET Exam (UG) : Differences between NEET and AIPMT

AIPMT - had two papers like the first test is Prelims, and second is the Main exam.
NEET - NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG) will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA)
NEET - NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (PG) will be conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE)
AIPMT - All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance (AIPMT) was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) CBSE.
NEET Exam (UG) : NEET exams are taken in two ways.

There are two ways to take the NEET exam, NEET (UG) and NEET (PG).
  • NEET UG Examination is taken for admission in graduate level course such as M.B.B.S. And BDS.
  • NEET PG Examination is taken for Post Graduate level course such as MS And M.D.
NEET Exam (UG) : Eligibility for NEET (UG), | Qualification | Passing Mark | Age criteria

Some criteria have been set for giving the NEET (UG) Exam. The student who completes them can take the NEET Exam.
  • NEET exam must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) subjects in class 12th and must have passed with minimum 50 percent marks.
  • The age for NEET exam should be minimum 17 years andJ maximum 25 years. (There is also a provision for relaxation in age limit for reserved candidates).
  • It is mandatory to have an Aadhaar card.
NEET Exam (UG) : Seats availability, Admission Quota

The seats availability under different quotas Admission will be done through NEET (UG):
  • All India Quota Seats
  • State Government Quota Seats
  • Universities-Deemed Universities-Central Institutions
  • State-Management-NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical / Dental /Ayurveda /Siddha /Unani /Homeopathy Colleges or any Private University
  • Central Pool Quota Seats
  • All seats including NRI Quota as well as Management Quota, in private unaided/aided minority / non- minority medical colleges shall also be filled on the basis of merit obtained in NEET(UG).

Important Note: 
  • Each question carries 04 (four) marks.
  • For each correct answer candidate will get 04 (four) marks. 
  • For each incorrect answer, 01(one) mark will be deducted from the total score. 
  • To answer a question, the candidate has to find, for each question, the correct answer/ best option.
  • Unanswered/Unattempted questions will be given no marks. 



NEET Exam (UG) : Details of Fee Payment
  • Fee Payable by Candidate Genera l Rs. 1500/-
  • General-EWS/ OBC-NCL Rs. 1400/-
  • SC/ST/PwD/Transgender Rs. 800/-
  • (Processing charges & Goods and Services Tax (GST) are to be paid by the candidate, as applicable)

NEET Exam (UG) : UFM (UNFAIRMEANS)

Unfairmeans practice is an activity that allows a candidate to gain an unfair advantage over other candidates. It includes, but is not limited to:
  • Being in possession of any item or article which has been prohibited or can be used for unfair practices including any stationery item, communication device, accessories, eatable items, ornaments or any other material or information relevant or not relevant to the examination in the paper concerned
  • Using someone to write examination (impersonation) or preparing material for copying
  • Breaching examination rules or any direction issued by NTA in connection with the conduct of NEET (UG) - 2020 examination from time to time;
  • Assisting other candidate to engage in malpractices, giving or receiving assistance directly or indirectly of any kind or attempting to do so;
  • Writing questions or answers on any material other than the answer sheet given by the Centre Superintendent for writing answers;
  • Tearing of Answer Sheet, any page of the test booklet etc.;
  • Contacting or communicating or trying to do so with any person, other than the Examination Staff, during the examination time in the Examination Centre;
  • Taking away the answer sheet out of the examination hall/room;
  • Smuggling out of Question Paper or its part or smuggling out answer sheet or part thereof;
  • Threatening any of the officials connected with the conduct of the examination or threatening any of the candidates;
  • Using or attempting to use any other undesirable method or means in connection with the examination;
  • Manipulation and fabrication of online documents viz. admit card, rank letter, self-declaration, etc.;
  • Forceful entry/exit in/from Examination Centre/Hall;
  • Use or attempted use of any electronic device after entering the Examination Centre;
  • Affixing/uploading of wrong/morphed photographs on the application form/admit card/proforma;
  • Erasing or obliterating any information printed on the OMR sheet;
  • Providing incorrect information on the answer sheet;
  • Making fake claims by manipulating the responses in OMR sheet uploaded on website for challenge before or after declaration of result.
  • Creating obstacles in smooth and fair conduct of examination.
  • Any other malpractices declared as unfairmeans by the NTA.
  • Punishment for using Unfairmeans practices During the course of, before or after the examination if a candidate indulges in any of the above or similar practices, he/she shall be deemed to have used unfair practices and booked under UNFAIRMEANS (U.F.M.) case. The candidate would be debarred for 3 years in future and shall also be liable for criminal action and /or any other action as deemed fit.
  • Cancellation of Result (1) The result of NEET Exam(UG) of the candidates who indulge in Unfairmeans Practices will be cancelled and will not be declared. (2) Similarly, the result of those candidates who appear from the Centre other than the one allotted to them, write on the Test booklet/OMR Sheet of other candidates or allow other candidates to write on their Test Booklet/OMR Sheet will be cancelled (and will not be declared).

How to apply for NEET Exam (UG) ?
NEET exam application forms are filled online. On its official website https://ntaneet.nic.in/, all the details like last date of application form, fee details, exam date, exam time are given. To apply for the NEET exam, the candidate has to register on this website https://ntaneet.nic.in/ntaneet/Registration/Instruction.aspx and then proceed to the online form. After the whole process (filling the form, uploading documents, paying fees), you have to print all the documents and send them to the address given on its website.
